Letter to Bishop William B. Preston, 1891 January 27.

Holograph letter to Bishop William B. Preston written on stationary from the "Office of the Logan Journal Company, printers and publishers," for the "BY College Executive Committee." It discusses 200 acres of land rented by Preston from Brigham Young College, 40 acres of which was occupied by "the poor man Rasmussen." The letter also mentions "Bro[ther] Martineau," acting on the bishop's behalf.

William Bowker Preston, 1830-1908, fourth presiding bishop of the Mormon Church, was born in Virginia. In 1852, Preston joined the California gold rush. He settled in Yolo County, California where he met and married Harriet Thatcher in 1858. In 1859 he joined the Hezikiah Thatcher family in settling Cache Valley--located on the Utah-Idaho border.
